Q & A > Transitioning Into Fitness Industry
Hi D,
I'm so happy for you that you've decided to take the leap into the fitness industry. It has been a fun and extremely rewarding journey for me, and it just keeps getting better. I believe that if you have the passion for anything, there is a reason for that, and if you follow that passion, the resources (both internal and external) will come.
You may consider starting small, so you can still work to pay your bills while you get your feet wet. Teaching group fitness classes and/or personal training are both great part time jobs that can easily lead to more full time work when you're ready. There are hundreds of certifications now in the fitness industry but the ones I like are AFAA, ACE, and ACSM. Start at www.AFAA.com with your primary group exercise cert. and then get your personal training cert.
My best advice is this. Start TODAY. Don't put it off one more minute. Make a call, get online and sign up for an exam and start studying. Start telling everyone you know what you are doing. Our thoughts and words are so powerful, they create our reality. If you have the desire and the passion for this, then the fitness industry needs you!
Good luck, and please keep me posted on your progress!
Denise

I'm considering transitioning from a long career in high-tech to fitness I'd love to educate and train others - similar to what you are doing. I've taught aerobics, and dabbled in personal training but would like to pursue more education. How do you recommend I approach this? Is there a specific degree or certifications that you recommend? Any direction is appreciated. I'd love to finally pursue my passion... what I was meant to do, Thanks much, D
